Self care month: Expressing Gratitude

There’s a difference between saying a simple thank you and being grateful. I feel gratitude helps you grow and expand; it brings joy and laughter in your life and people around you.

Again you’d ask, “ what has expressing gratitude for to do with self care”? Well, when you are grateful for your life and the people around you, you find more reasons to smile and that’s a big part of self care, right?


Very recently I performed a dance sequence about people who are differently abled and how despite this they find reasons to smile and how we should be grateful about our life. This gave me the experience to empathise with such problems and I felt the urge to be more thankful towards life and little things around me in general.


What I felt more deeply is the fact that feeling gratitude is one thing, but expressing it is just as important. We should take the time to appreciate people. When you live with the intention of thankfulness every single day, you become more present, more aware of everything around you. And this brings the biggest joy to you; being truly alive by feeling each moment.


In all emotions we feel, gratitude is the healthiest emotion of all. The more we express gratitude, the more reasons we find to be grateful about. Gratitude can change everything. We keep thinking about the future and what all we want without noticing what we have in front of us.


Promise yourself to take time each day to be thankful. Because when you are thankful, you learn to enjoy the little things and live in the moment, which makes everyday feel special.


Take this as your sign to tell your best friend how grateful you are for them. Tell your mom how thankful you are for her. Tell your teacher how lucky you are for her to be there for you. Tell every important person in your life how thankful you are for them. And remember; as we express gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to simply utter words, but to live by them.
